Building your first workflow

Walking you through creating your first project and workflow.

Introduction

This guide will walk you through creating a project and running a workflow from scratch. The goal is to automatically compute flood masks near the Victoria Falls using high-resolution Pléiades satellite images.

For more detailed explanations, please check out the UP42 video tutorials.

Create a project and a workflow

1] In order to access the UP42 console, you first need to sign up by following the steps from the article Create an UP42 account. After signing up, create your first project by clicking Start a Project.

project step00

2] Provide a name to your project and add a description (if applicable). Click Save.

project step01

3] In order to take advantage of the UP42 geospatial data and algorithms, you need to build a workflow by clicking Create Workflow.

project step02

For more information about projects and workflows, please refer to Core concepts.

Add blocks

4] In the UP42 platform, a workflow consists of data blocks and processing blocks. The first block is always a data block. This data block can be followed by one or more processing blocks. In this example, a workflow based on a flood finder algorithm extracts water-covered areas from 2 Pléiades images acquired in the same region. The first step is to select the data block from which these flood masks are to be computed. Click Add data.

workflow step00

5] Browse for the data block Pléiades Reflectance (Download). This data block consumes 1000 UP42 credits per square kilometer (the equivalent of 10 Euro or Dollars). Click on this block and read its description, where additional details are provided. Click Add Block.

workflow step01

6] The next block that follows the data block is a processing block. Click Add processing.

workflow step02

7] Browse for the processing block Pan-sharpening. This block consumes 0 UP42 credits per square kilometers. Click this block and read its description, where additional details are provided. Click Add Block.

workflow step03

8] The final block that follows this processing block is another processing block. Click the plus sign after the previously added processing block.

workflow step04

9] Browse for the processing block Flood Finder Pléiades/SPOT. This block consumes 50 UP42 credits per square kilometers (the equivalent of 0.5 Euro or Dollars). Click this block and read its description, where additional details are provided. Click Add Block.

workflow step05

All the data and processing blocks are listed in the UP42 Marketplace.

Congratulations, you successfully created a workflow! The next step is generating the outputs defined by the workflow via job configuration and job run. To proceed, please go to Running your first job.
